Shelly Lang Artist Jan. 2020-March 2020. Powerful Compassion!

My name is Shelly Lang and I am an artist and designer. I have always been creative but it was later in life that I found the space to actually make art and fashion as a career. I am a creative entrepreneur building a brand from my art inspired by my own personal journey. The ideas I am most passionate about have to do with the feminine in the context of our culture. The idea of the feminine or “feminine qualities” is important to me because as a woman, I have realized I was operating from a cultural expectation to give away my personal power and that some of my most precious gifts were undervalued because they were not decidedly goal oriented or easily controlled. I began to realize that I and a lot of other women were taught to hush down our exuberance that comes from having an open and vulnerable heart and that our intuition was not a valued source of information. Other qualities I advocate in my work are the courage to have compassion, first for one’s self, then for others, to choose inclusiveness because we know in our core that we are all connected, the awareness to choose vulnerability for its power to heal and build relationship, the kind of boldness that comes from standing in our truth (despite the prevailing opinion) and finally beauty, for the power it holds to inspire and uplift. I wish to express these values as centrally important, not peripherally. They are the powerful and healing choices that will heal our world, and they are grounded in truth, love and personal responsibility. I create art to inspire and empower these ideas in our world.
